Hey guys, we just tried your idea here, and it turned out some awesome deserts! Thanks for the post!
I don't know what you were using for the actual topping, I mean whether canned or not, but we ended up making our own out of home grown fruits with 2 lbs of fruit, 1 cup of flour, 2 cups of granulated sugar, and 1 tsp of vanilla extract. We made some peach, cherry apple, and lemon (the lemon was a bit different, but I didn't do that one, so not sure of the exact recipe) and they turned out fabulous! Even the kids who "hate fruit" each ate more than their share :D
We used the topping for a someo ther desserts too, which you can check out at gwystyl.wordpress.com if you're interested. Thanks again!
Thanks for the awesome video! I grew up making hobo pies, and there are so many people who have never heard of them. Loved your suggestion for using beef stew and making a pot pie. I'll have to try that next time. I found your video on YouTube, and decided to check out your blog. Thanks again for such a great demonstration. I'll be pointing people your direction any time I'm asked for a hobo pie definition!
