This hand washer will help conserve water when washing your hands and rinsing your dishes. It is especially great if you have kids!

What You Will Need:

1 - 1 gallon Jug (clean milk or water jug)
1 - 16 penny nail
some string

* Fill the clean gallon jug with water and replace the lid. Put the 16 penny nail in one of the bottom corners and puncture through the jug. On one end of the string attach the nail and tie the other end of the string to the handle of the jug. To use simply loosen the cap of the jug to allow some air to get into the jug. Then remove the nail and you will have a steady stream of water to wash your hands or rinse your dishes. When done simply put the nail back in the hole and tighten the cap.

New Video - If your campsite has these three things it will ensure that you have a great campsite for the following reasons:

First, look for a large area for your campsite. The area should be large enough for your tent, cooking area, and campfire pit. You will want to ensure that your tent is a safe distance away from your cooking and campfire area. You don't want any sparks or smoke coming near your tent.

Secondly, you will want to make sure the area is relatively flat. Especially the area where you plan to set your tent up. No one wants to sleep on a slant. Also, remember to rake all rocks and pieces of wood out of the area you plan to pitch your tent. This will make for a much more comfortable night's sleep.

And third, if possible, you will want to find a spot that has trees. The trees will provide shade as well as protection from the wind. Trees are also helpful for hanging up a clothes line to dry clothes and blankets that may get wet while camping. Kids also enjoy tree around the campsite so they can build their own wilderness forts to help keep them entertained while camping.

So, if you find a large, flat area with some trees you will have a great location to camp.

Camping Stoves - 3 Must Have Accessories For Your Camping Stove

When you are out on your next camping trip, a propane camp stove is a great way to do your cooking. It provides even cooking and the source of heat can be regulated easily. It is very much like cooking at home on your kitchen stove. A propane camp stove is also a permitted form of cooking when campfires and charcoal grills are prohibited due to extreme forest fire danger. But it is important that you bring the following accessories with you to use with your camping stove.

1) Extra Propane - Whether you just use the small 1 pound propane bottles that easily attach to your camp stove or if you connect your stove to a large propane bottle, always make sure you have some extra propane. It is always a good idea to carry 4 to 5 extra small propane bottles in your vehicle in case of an emergency.

2) Matches and/or Lighters - As with carrying extra propane, it is also a good idea to carry extra matches and a couple lighters to light your stove.

3) Extra Hose and Distribution Tree - It is a great idea to have an extra hose if you are using a large propane bottle with your camp stove. In the event your original hose gets damaged, you will have a spare. A distribution tree that attaches to your large propane bottle is also very helpful. It has extra outlets to attach other propane using items to such as a propane grill and lantern.

So, as you can see, a propane camp stove is a great cooking device on your camping trips as long as you remember to be prepared with extra propane, extra matches and lighters, and a spare hose along with a distribution tree.

Camping Recipes – 3 Tips on “Food Safety” to use on Your Next Camping Trip

It is extremely important to use good “Food Safety” when camping. Use the following “Food Safety” so you and your fellow campers can have an enjoyable camping trip.

1. Plan Your Meals and Method of Cooking – Before you go on your camping trip plan the meals you would like to have and when. This will help you prepare the food for your trip. For instance, if you are planning on having steaks on your third night of camping, make sure the steaks are completely frozen before taking them in your cooler. You will also want to consider what method you will use to cook your meals. Remember, at time, the forest may be closed to campfires and charcoal grills so you will need to bring a propane stove or grill for cooking.

2. Keep Everything Clean – Remember to wash your hands before and after handling foods, especially raw meats. Also, make sure all cooking utensils and pans are clean prior to use. When packing your cooler, double wrap your raw meats to contain their juices and keeping your other foods safe.

3. Keep Hot Foods Hot, Cold Foods Cold – It is important to keep all your food that should be refrigerated cold. It is recommended to have two coolers, one for drinks and one for all your food. This will eliminate opening the food cooler too frequently and melting the ice more quickly. Also, keep your coolers in the shade and place an old blanket around them for further insulation. Remember to serve hot foods promptly, and store leftovers in an ice filled cooler.

So, as you can see, if you practice these “Food Safety” tips your next camping trip will be both SAFE and enjoyable.

Best Tent Camping – The 3 Most Important Things to Have for a Great Campsite Location

Tent camping is very popular these days and many people wander how you can pick a great campsite location for your tent. If you are camping in a designated campground is easy to find a great campsite. But if you are roughing it and camping out in the woods here are three things to look for in a great tent campsite.

1. A Flat Spot – When you are camping in a tent you want to find a flat spot to pitch your tent. This will make sleeping much more comfortable. Removing all rocks and twigs from the area where you are going to put your tent will eliminate stepping on sharp objects when you are barefoot in your tent.

2. Trees – Trees will provide shade from the sun. This is especially helpful when camping in the heat of the summer months. Trees will also act as a wind break for your tent. If you are in a winding area, camping in amongst trees and brushes will protect you and your tent.

3. Large Area - You will want an area that is large enough for your tent, cooking area, and campfire. And if you are ever in a survival situation it is important you know how to build a successful camp fire for warmth on a cold night. The following are three steps that you can take to make a camp fire.

1) Gather Enough Firewood – One of the biggest mistakes people make when building a camp fire is not having enough wood to keep the fire going. It is important that you gather a large pile of firewood before you attempt to make your camp fire. This way you will have wood to put on your fire to keep it burning without having to run around looking for more firewood before your fire goes out.

2) Good Tinder Bundle – Every fire starts with a good tinder bundle. Without it a fire is almost impossible to get going. The type of bundle will change depending on the method of ignition. If you are starting your fire with matches or a lighter; dry pine needles, dry heavy grass, or leaves will work just fine. However, if you are using a more primitive method for starting your fire, your bundle will need to consist of much finer materials in order for a spark or ember to ignite.

3) Adding Wood to Your Fire – Once the tinder bundle has been lit; use small twigs and sticks to keep the fire going and growing. You will want to place an increasingly larger size piece of wood to your fire. Make sure to give enough time for each size of wood to ignite before adding more wood as to not smother the fire. Continue adding fire wood to achieve the size of fire you desire. Remember to watch your fire wood pile to ensure you have enough wood for your fire.

So, as you can see, make sure you follow these three steps when making your next camp fire.

Camping –3 Do’s and 3 Don’ts for Your Next Camping Trip

Many people are turning to camping as an inexpensive vacation this year. Just like home, you can grab a pan, some ingredients, and you can be cooking. You can boil water so everyone can have exactly what they want; coffee, tea, or cocoa. You can use hot water to make soups, do dishes, or even take a hot shower. Camp stoves make camping fun and easy.

But which size camp stove should you buy? There are so many on the market it may be hard to choose. Consider which of the following type of camping you will be doing so you can choose the right size camp stove for your needs.

· Car Camping – If you will be hauling all your camping gear in a car, you will need to determine if you have room for a two or three burner stove or just a single burner. A lot of the propane only stoves are very streamlined and pack very nicely.

· Truck Camping – If you are traveling in a truck with your camping gear you will have more room than someone camping in a car. However this doesn’t necessarily mean you should bring the largest stove you can find. Think about your needs and what all you will be using the stove for. Will you be using three burners all at once? If not, a nice two burner stove maybe sufficient.

· Backpackers – Backpackers will want to use a lightweight, single burner stove specially designed for backpacking. These stove are easy to carry and burn well at any altitude. Most backpackers will use this single stove to make all their meals and hot drinks from while camping.

So, as you can see, depending on the type of camping you will be doing, will help you determine what size camp stove is right for you.

Camping – 3 Biggest Mistakes People Make When Going Camping

Camping is a great activity to do with friends and family members. It is a great, inexpensive way to take a vacation and spend some quality time with the ones you love and care about. But before you go on your next camping trip, make sure you’re not making one of the following mistakes:

1) Forgetting Something – Many people get in such a hurry when packing that they forget a very important item for their camping trip. Some things that people often forget are their bedroll, pillows, extra-warm clothes, shoes for the kids, and even the tent. So, to help you remember all the necessities it is recommended to have a camping checklist and mark off the items as you pack for your camping trip.

2) Not Enough Food and Water – You don’t want to get into your camping trip and find out that you don’t have enough food or water for the duration of your stay. Planning is very important for meals and snacks. Plan what you will have for breakfast, lunch, and dinner for each day of your camping trip. Remember campers will want snacks and drinks throughout the day. And more important than food is having enough water. You will need enough water for your campers along with water for showers and washing dishes if you are not camping in an area where you can fill your water containers.

3) Not Putting out Campfire Properly and Littering– This is the most important thing you can do as a camper to protect fellow campers and the forest. Make sure your campfire is dead –out. To do this, pour lots of water on the fire and drown all the embers until the hissing sound stops. Now stir the campfire ashes and embers with a shovel and make sure everything is well. Do not leave until they are cold to the touch. Also, make sure you pack out what you pack in. Remove all trash and dispose of properly. When campers leave trash around campsites it leaves a bad impression and makes those who want to keep people out of the forest a reason for their cause.

So, as you can see, use a checklist to ensure you remember all the essentials for camping, plan ahead for enough food and water, and make sure you put your campfire out properly and do not litter. If you avoid these three big mistakes your next camping trip will be more enjoyable and safe.

Best Tent Camping – 3 Must –Haves for Your Tent When Camping

Tent camping is a very inexpensive way to go camping. And these days everyone is looking for ways to save money. But there are many ways to make your tent more comfortable while camping. Below are the three things you must have for your tent.

1. Tarp – It is recommended that you lay a large tarp down underneath your tent. This will help protect your tent from small rocks and twigs on the ground and keep it cleaner on the bottom. The tarp will also act as a moisture barrier. Make sure the tarp is large enough to have two to three feet of tarp extended out on the ground in front of your tent door. This is a great place to have campers take off their shoes before entering the tent.

2. Air Mattress – An air mattress will give you the most comfortable night sleep in a tent. It will give you extra padding between you and the ground. An air mattress is warmer than sleeping on a camping cot because there is no air underneath you like when on a cot. You can purchase a hand pump or a pump that you can plug into your vehicles cigarette lighter.

3. Battery Powered Lantern – You can bring some light into your tent at night or in the early morning hours with a battery powered lantern. This is a safe way to provide light for your campers without having a fire hazard.

So, as you can see, having a tarp under your tent and an air mattress and battery powered lantern in your tent will make your next camping trip much more comfortable.

Camping Gear – 7 Most Important Items to Have on Your Next Camping Trip

When people go camping, some bring just the bare essentials while others bring everything except the kitchen sink. Extra blankets are also a good idea. No one likes to be cold during the night.

6) Paper Goods – Remember toilet paper, handy wipes, and a roll of paper towels for the camp kitchen.

7) Marshmallows – The most important item to have on your next camping trip is marshmallows. The kids love roasting marshmallows and making smores.

So, here are seven of the most important items you will want to pack in your camping gear on your next camping trip.

Camping Makes the Weekend Perfect

Do you have a weekend without anything to do or a weekend when you don’t want to do anything? I know what I’d do. I would pack up the truck and head for the woods. Sitting by a camp fire with your favorite people solves many problems, so you shouldn’t wait too long between fires. My favorite thing to do on a weekend is to camp. Are you looking for an easy way to camp? How about car camping? I love it!

First of all, let’s define car camping? When you can drive your vehicle right up to the camp site, that’s called car camping. Even if you’re driving a truck it’s still called car camping. The advantage of car camping versus primitive or base camping is that you can take anything you want with you. If you want to take a hammock or huge grill or a stack of magazines, you can. Load your car or truck with food, clothing, shelter, bedding, games and anything else you want to take along and get going. It’s really that simple.

So where can you car camp? Just about anywhere. National and state parks don’t allow car camping except in designated campgrounds, other than that, you can car camp virtually anywhere on public lands. The internet is loaded with websites that can help. Start looking at www.backcountrytoys.com/education.htm. Our Education Center is loaded with up to date camping information.

Here are some things I take along when I car camp: hiking gear, bird watching binoculars and field guide, a radio for music and weather updates, tent, cot, sleeping bag, grill, shovel, fire starting gear, lots of food and drink, first aid kit, a stack of reading material – this can also be used for building a fire – such as newspapers and magazines, rain gear, hammock, dogs and dog food, folding chairs and table, stove, table service and utensils….you get the idea. I take all that I need to be comfortable. If you don’t have these things, don’t fret, all you really need are food, shelter and common sense.

Camping is a great way to renew and strengthen relationships. Take your spouse, your children, your siblings, your friends. Without the distractions of television, telephone, internet and alarm clocks, you will have a wonderful time. I’ll always remember something a dear friend of mine told me years ago, “Time spent in our great outdoors is time added to your life.” That sounds like a good reason to go. Use this information and you’ll Get It Right The First Time.

Get Outdoors!

Chuck Fitzgerald is the President of Arizona based BackCountry Toys, an online store providing backcountry specialty gear and educational information for outdoor enthusiasts. We would be taking our 5th-wheel trailer, as we'd be camping at their homestead.

The Find > Address answer in my GPS was ambiguous. I wanted solid confirmation that we would be going to the correct place. What to do?

Google Earth to the rescue! I opened Google Earth and quickly found the location. Then, I placemarked the location. (Add > Placemark) Once the placemark pin was inserted, I right clicked on the pin, went to Properties, and read off and wrote down the latitude and longitude.

The next step was to create a waypoint in my GPS by manually putting the latitude and longitude into the GPS.

When I arrived at the destination, a bit over 200 miles away, I drove up to the camping spot and stopped before backing the trailer into the spot they had prepared for us.

I glanced at the GPS data field: Distance to Destination: 3 feet!

The combination of Google Earth and GPS can be a provide a simple, yet very high-tech, way to find practically any spot on the face of the earth. Here are some things for which it may prove useful:

Find campground or RV park

Locate destination for a load of goods to be delivered

Find a business which you need to visit

Locate a relative's home

Find the location of a hall or hotel where you will be making a presentation.

Both Google Earth and GPS are amazingly accurate. In the situations described above, the major inaccuracy will be introduced by your setting of the Placemark. Accuracy of the GPS itself will probably be within a very few tens of feet.

Copyright 2007 Keith A. National Parks can provide an excellent backdrop for some of your outdoor activities.
Activities such as hiking, fishing, cycling, horseback riding, white water rafting and kayaking, skiing, rock climbing and mountaineering are just a few of the sports you might want to include on your camping adventure.

It's important when traveling to bring along the proper clothing. Always include some rain and windwear, a fleece jacket is also a good idea. A first aid kit and plenty of drinking water should always be available. Of course if you are planning on doing any outdoor activities in the winter you will need more clothing etc. Bring along your bicycles and hiking boots if you have them. Usually equipment rentals will be available for activities you don't usually do.

Whatever outdoor activity you decide on pursuing, it's always a great idea to do a little research. Most of the National Parks you will be visiting have excellent web sites that you can look into and see what sort of hiking trails and activities are available. Information such as popular points of interest in the parks will also be available in travel books and park brochures. Depending on where you will be staying you can also research the area you will be visiting for information on bicycle rentals,
kayak rentals and lessons, and boating. There will be different outfitters available in the area that may offer excursions and rentals through the park you are visiting.

One of the most convenient and popular camping activities is hiking trails. For some people a hike can consist of a simple walk around the park, while others prefer a much lengthier hike.
Regardless of what sort of hike you will be taking, a little preparation will go a long way in ensuring a comfortable
journey. Hiking trails offer highly scenic and incredible views of nature. Hiking is a wonderful way to view nature at
its finest, as the parks really are preserving special pieces of our wilderness. Depending on what park you will be hiking, the trails will offer different ranges of difficulty levels.
Many trails will lead to scenic vistas as easy hikes, while other hikes may be significantly more challenging and too steep for some.

Always be prepared for the weather when hiking, carry a daypack with some water, a rain/wind jacket, a leece/wool jacket or sweater, a first aid kit and some food. Good hiking boots are
essential. On some of your hikes it is quite likely you will come across wildlife such as moose, black bears and grizzly
bears, big horn sheep and deer. It is a good idea to know what you should and should not do when coming across animals, parks often will have signs up if animals have been sighted in the
campground.

Fishing is a wonderful way to enjoy the sport and see beautiful streams, ocean, lakes and rivers all over the United States. National Parks offer both freshwater and saltwater fishing.
Check with the state fishing regulations for exact dates and detailed fishing information, including proper license
requirements. Some fishing pportunities will require overnight backcountry use permits. It is always important to respect the park you are fishing in to maintain the quality waters that protect the natural fish populations and food sources for bald eagles, ospreys and otters among others.

Cycling is an excellent and convenient way to explore the national park or area where you are staying. Bringing along bicycles allows you to just get up and go wherever you are. It is important to check beforehand as to where cycling is allowed. Most National Parks only allow biking on the paved and backcountry dirt roads throughout the parks. Most hiking trails do not allow bicycles. Most of your cycling through the parks will be done on the same roads used for cars, for this reason special caution should be used; stay alert and be visible using
both head and tail lights along with reflective clothing. Look into the area you will be camping in, there may be trails available specifically for cycling.

Horseback riding might be a fun and exciting option while visiting a national park. Several parks offer gravel roads for horseback riding, certain parks also have horse rentals and guided excursions available. A list of stables and outfitters can be obtained at visitor centers, or checked through travel
guides and brochures.

Whitewater rafting is one of the most unique and invigorating ways to visit a parks backcountry. Some of the most incredible National Parks may have river rafting excursions that travel
through the park, the river rafting is usually offered by various companies and outfitters. If whitewater rafting sounds a bit too dangerous, perhaps a kayaking excursion through one of
the splendid rivers would seem wiser. Imagine kayaking through one of the popular National Parks past geysers, hot spring and mud pots. Kayaking is a wonderful way to explore areas that are untouched by vehicle or foot traffic.

Cross country skiing is another popular way for the whole family to visit and see beautiful winter landscapes. Many parks have several excellent trails available for cross country skiing.
Several National Parks will offer novice, intermediate and advanced trails for skiing. Cross country skiing is a wonderful way to experience the parks wilderness during the winter season.
Snowshoeing trails may also be available in parks.

The U.S. National Parks offer some of the most incredible rock climbing and mountaineering pursuits in the world. Rock climbing and mountaineering are usually sports reserved for people with
a bit of experience. Rock climbing and mountaineering can offer wonderful and different perspectives of the landscapes. Both sports demand having the proper equipment and knowledge for safety reasons. Many National Parks offer established climbing routes that will have a wide range of difficulty levels; usually no permits are needed, unless an overnight stay in backcountry is involved. It is important to check weather conditions beforehand and use caution, never climb alone.

What better way to experience some of the most beautiful scenery in the world than with some fun outdoor activities. The options for outdoor activities are endless. Whether you decide to visit
any of the amazing National Parks or choose to go camping in a favorite spot the list is limitless. Many of the activities you might be interested in will be available in the towns near the
parks. Various outfitters and companies outside some of the popular National Parks will offer excursions that go into the parks. Whatever activity you decide to enjoy, it is always wise to do a little research to know ahead of time what to expect, always check what the weather conditions will be to avoid any dangerous situations.

About the author:

<best>http://www.best-camping-supplies.com</best>

A Camping Supply List is an Essential Part of Planning a Camping Trip.

A well-prepared and thorough camping supply list can make a big impact on your camping adventure.
