Take one slice of bread and butter it. Sprinkle the butter side with sugar. Place it butter side down in the pie iron. Spoon the desired amount of pie filling on this slice of bread in the pie iron. Take another slice of bread and butter one side. Again, sprinkle the butter side with sugar. Place this slice of bread on top of the pie filling, butter side up. Close the pie iron, place in fire for a couple minutes on each side. Remove pie from iron and sprinkle the top with sugar.

What You Will Need:

1 - 1 gallon Jug (clean milk or water jug)
1 - 16 penny nail
some string

* Fill the clean gallon jug with water and replace the lid. Put the 16 penny nail in one of the bottom corners and puncture through the jug. On one end of the string attach the nail and tie the other end of the string to the handle of the jug. To use simply loosen the cap of the jug to allow some air to get into the jug. Then remove the nail and you will have a steady stream of water to wash your hands or rinse your dishes. When done simply put the nail back in the hole and tighten the cap.

A. You will want to look for a large, flat area with quite a few trees. If your campsite has these three things it will ensure that you have a great campsite for the following reasons:

First, look for a large area for your campsite. The area should be large enough for your tent, cooking area, and campfire pit. You will want to ensure that your tent is a safe distance away from your cooking and campfire area. You don't want any sparks or smoke coming near your tent.

Secondly, you will want to make sure the area is relatively flat. Especially the area where you plan to set your tent up. No one wants to sleep on a slant. Also, remember to rake all rocks and pieces of wood out of the area you plan to pitch your tent. This will make for a much more comfortable night's sleep.

And third, if possible, you will want to find a spot that has trees. The trees will provide shade as well as protection from the wind. Do you have a weekend without anything to do or a weekend when you don’t want to do anything? I know what I’d do. I would pack up the truck and head for the woods. Sitting by a camp fire with your favorite people solves many problems, so you shouldn’t wait too long between fires. My favorite thing to do on a weekend is to camp. Are you looking for an easy way to camp? How about car camping? I love it!

First of all, let’s define car camping? When you can drive your vehicle right up to the camp site, that’s called car camping. Even if you’re driving a truck it’s still called car camping. The advantage of car camping versus primitive or base camping is that you can take anything you want with you. If you want to take a hammock or huge grill or a stack of magazines, you can. Load your car or truck with food, clothing, shelter, bedding, games and anything else you want to take along and get going. It’s really that simple.

So where can you car camp? Just about anywhere. National and state parks don’t allow car camping except in designated campgrounds, other than that, you can car camp virtually anywhere on public lands. The internet is loaded with websites that can help. Start looking at www.backcountrytoys.com/education.htm. Our Education Center is loaded with up to date camping information.

Here are some things I take along when I car camp: hiking gear, bird watching binoculars and field guide, a radio for music and weather updates, tent, cot, sleeping bag, grill, shovel, fire starting gear, lots of food and drink, first aid kit, a stack of reading material – this can also be used for building a fire – such as newspapers and magazines, rain gear, hammock, dogs and dog food, folding chairs and table, stove, table service and utensils….you get the idea. I take all that I need to be comfortable. If you don’t have these things, don’t fret, all you really need are food, shelter and common sense.

Camping is a great way to renew and strengthen relationships. Take your spouse, your children, your siblings, your friends. Without the distractions of television, telephone, internet and alarm clocks, you will have a wonderful time. I’ll always remember something a dear friend of mine told me years ago, “Time spent in our great outdoors is time added to your life.” That sounds like a good reason to go. Use Google Earth and GPS To Find Your Destination

We were planning a visit to a relatives house, one to which we've been but I had forgotten exactly which road to turn on to get there. We would be taking our 5th-wheel trailer, as we'd be camping at their homestead.

The Find > Address answer in my GPS was ambiguous. I wanted solid confirmation that we would be going to the correct place. What to do?

Google Earth to the rescue! I opened Google Earth and quickly found the location. Then, I placemarked the location. (Add > Placemark) Once the placemark pin was inserted, I right clicked on the pin, went to Properties, and read off and wrote down the latitude and longitude.

The next step was to create a waypoint in my GPS by manually putting the latitude and longitude into the GPS.

When I arrived at the destination, a bit over 200 miles away, I drove up to the camping spot and stopped before backing the trailer into the spot they had prepared for us.

I glanced at the GPS data field: Distance to Destination: 3 feet!

The combination of Google Earth and GPS can be a provide a simple, yet very high-tech, way to find practically any spot on the face of the earth. Here are some things for which it may prove useful:

Find campground or RV park
Locate destination for a load of goods to be delivered
Find a business which you need to visit
Locate a relative's home
Find the location of a hall or hotel where you will be making a presentation.

Both Google Earth and GPS are amazingly accurate. In the situations described above, the major inaccuracy will be introduced by your setting of the Placemark. Accuracy of the GPS itself will probably be within a very few tens of feet.

Camping mixed with outdoor activity is a great way to get ourselves involved with nature. National Parks can provide an excellent backdrop for some of your outdoor activities.
Activities such as hiking, fishing, cycling, horseback riding, white water rafting and kayaking, skiing, rock climbing and mountaineering are just a few of the sports you might want to include on your camping adventure.

It's important when traveling to bring along the proper clothing. Always include some rain and windwear, a fleece jacket is also a good idea. A first aid kit and plenty of drinking water should always be available. Of course if you are planning on doing any outdoor activities in the winter you will need more clothing etc. Bring along your bicycles and hiking boots if you have them. Usually equipment rentals will be available for activities you don't usually do.

Whatever outdoor activity you decide on pursuing, it's always a great idea to do a little research. Most of the National Parks you will be visiting have excellent web sites that you can look into and see what sort of hiking trails and activities are available. Information such as popular points of interest in the parks will also be available in travel books and park brochures. Depending on where you will be staying you can also research the area you will be visiting for information on bicycle rentals,

One of the most convenient and popular camping activities is hiking trails. For some people a hike can consist of a simple walk around the park, while others prefer a much lengthier hike.
Regardless of what sort of hike you will be taking, a little preparation will go a long way in ensuring a comfortable
journey. Hiking trails offer highly scenic and incredible views of nature. Hiking is a wonderful way to view nature at
its finest, as the parks really are preserving special pieces of our wilderness. Depending on what park you will be hiking, the trails will offer different ranges of difficulty levels.
Many trails will lead to scenic vistas as easy hikes, while other hikes may be significantly more challenging and too steep for some.

Always be prepared for the weather when hiking, carry a daypack with some water, a rain/wind jacket, a leece/wool jacket or sweater, a first aid kit and some food. Good hiking boots are
essential. On some of your hikes it is quite likely you will come across wildlife such as moose, black bears and grizzly
bears, big horn sheep and deer. It is a good idea to know what you should and should not do when coming across animals, parks often will have signs up if animals have been sighted in the
campground.
